We walk

We design and lead participatory walking experiences across Europe from our base in the heart of the Alps.

Creating participatory, place-based experiences.

We collaborate with partners on projects and occasionally offer public walks. Our work focuses on four key areas:

Sense

Awaken attention to place

Connect & understand

Link lived experience to systems

Imagine

Explore possible worlds together

Make

Create something temporary, leave with something lasting

All of our work is grounded in senstoryscapes,  a seven-step method created by Suzanne Whitby that invites people to connect with place, time, and each other through the senses. The goal? Immersion, engagement, and shifts in thinking, feeling, and acting.

Some of our walks and experiences are designed for the public. Others are shaped in collaboration with organisations or commissioned for specific purposes. Whatever the format, they all begin with walking and aim to leave you seeing, feeling, or thinking differently.

Sense

Awaken attention to place

Our sensory walks and participatory experiences invite people to slow down, notice, and reconnect with the world around them. Through sight, sound, touch, scent, and even taste, participants rediscover the richness of their surroundings and the stories that live in everyday spaces.

These experiences can be intimate introductions to deeper engagement or simply opportunities to practise presence and attention.

Commissionable formats

  • 90-minute public walk series, thematic or seasonal
  • 60–90-minute facilitated walks for conferences or meetings
  • Half-day “Sensing Your Museum / Neighbourhood” sessions with staff or communities
  • Custom-designed walks and walkshops

Examples of past walks include:
Colour Walks | Smell Walks | Sound Walks | Touch Walks | Taste Walks | Mindful Multi-sensory | Wild Urban Nature | Portals | Look Up! Walks

Possible partner outputs:
Photos, participant quotes, a short “What we noticed” field note, and consented images for reports or social sharing.

Available: Europe-wide (travel and subsistence costs apply)

Connect & understand

Link lived experience to systems

These facilitated walks and walkshops make complex topics tangible and relatable. We dive into topics that range from climate change to circular economies and multi-solving to systems thinking. By walking through real places, participants connect what they see and feel to the larger systems that shape our lives.

Each walk creates space for reflection and dialogue, turning abstract issues into shared, grounded understanding.

Commissionable formats

  • 2–4-hour thematic walks tailored to your city, site, or neighbourhood
  • One-day programmes combining a morning walk and afternoon reflection workshop
  • Custom-designed walks for sustainability initiatives, organisations, conferences, or festivals, or

Examples of past walks include:
Climate Conversations Walks | Circular Economy Walks | Deep Time Walks | Sustainability in the City Walks | Systems & Change Walks | Conscious Evolution Walks

Possible partner outputs:
Summary notes with local examples, themed prompts used, and insights gathered; materials suitable for communications or evaluation reporting.

Available: Europe-wide (travel and subsistence costs apply)

    Imagine

    Explore possible worlds together

Our imagination walks and installations invite people to step into futures that could be, whether playful, plausible, or profound. Using sensory artefacts, anchors to place, storytelling, and participatory prompts, participants sense and discuss what different futures might feel like.

These experiences spark creativity and agency, helping people rehearse change and explore the paths that could lead us there.

We design imaginative, participatory futures experiences at different scales, from playful local explorations to deep, research-driven walkshops.

    Commissionable formats

    • 2–3-hour participatory imagination walks
    • Half-day or full-day Walk the Futures walkshops combining sensory artefacts and creative reflection
    • Bespoke installations or experiential exhibits for festivals, museums, and cultural events
    • Collaborative “futures in place” programmes for communities or teams

    Examples of past projects include:
Walk the Futures | Our City 2055 Walks | Goold Ancestor Walks (also called Future Citizen Wals) | Speculative Story Walks | Future Artefacts Exhibitions | Futures for Cities Workshops | Memory Walks

    Possible partner outputs:
Creative documentation (photos, field notes, sensory artefacts), public engagement summaries, or reflections for exhibitions and reports.

Available: Europe-wide (travel and subsistence costs apply)

      Make

Create something temporary, leave with something lasting

Our Earthed Art walks invite participants to explore impermanence, creativity, and connection with place

Each walk begins with gathering: of materials, impressions, and ideas. That’s followed by quiet creation, and we end with a shared reflection and gentle leave-behind.

These are not art classes, but guided experiences in seeing, feeling, and making.
Participants work with found natural or man-made materials to create site-specific, ephemeral artworks, individually or together, that honour the textures, moods, and stories of a particular place.

      Commissionable formats

      • 2–3-hour Earthed Art walks for public programmes, conferences, or festivals
      • Half-day or one-day creative engagement workshops for organisations or communities
      • Custom collaborative installations co-designed for parks, museums, cultural initiatives, and celebrations

Examples of past and related formats:
Earthed Art Walks | Collaborative Land Art | Urban Nature Creations | Creative Reflection Walks

      Possible partner outputs:
High-quality photographs of creations, brief reflection notes, and optional documentation for exhibitions or reports (all with consent).

Available: Europe-wide (travel and subsistence costs apply)

        Let’s talk

        The pillars of our practice

        Start with the body. (Walking)

A walk is never just a walk. Movement grounds attention, and attention changes everything. All our practices include walking at some point, and in cases where walking on two legs is impossible, we walk using aids, or we walk with our imagination.

        Be where you are. (Presence)

We work with the textures of real places: their histories, their futures, their hidden stories. All our work is site-specific, sensory, and responsive to the landscapes we move through.

        Create conditions for change.

We don’t promise transformation, but we invite imagination, agency, and gentle disruption. Through stories, creative prompts, and shared reflection, we encourage shifts, small and large, in thought, feeling, or future direction.

        Beyond the walks:
        facilitation, moderation and talks

Facilitation is at the heart of everything we do, whether it’s holding space for dialogue, moderating an event, or sharing ideas about creative climate engagement, futures, and systems change.

If you are searching for a professional facilitator, lively moderator, or interactive talk grounded in the idea that systems change is possible, and that builds on ideas of participation, sensory storytelling, possible futures, and the creative potential of walking-based engagement, we'd love to help.

If you’re looking for a professional facilitator, a lively moderator, or an interactive talk grounded in the belief that systems change is possible, and that new systems can be built on ideas of participation, sensory storytelling, possible futures, and the creative potential of walking-based engagement, we’d love to help.

        Who we work with

We work with people and organisations who care about place, imagination, and the stories we live by. Together we walk change into being.

Our partners, collaborators, and clients include festivals, museums, cultural institutions, artists, universities, public sector organisations, and community-led projects.

Whether you’re looking for a participatory programme, a residency, a bespoke walk, or creative climate engagement, we’d love to explore it with you.

We bring creative direction, skilled facilitation, and twenty years of experience across science, society, storytelling, and sustainability. All of our work is shaped in collaboration, and grounded in our core method, senstoryscapes.

If you already have an idea, get in touch. If you’re not sure yet, we’re happy to help shape something together.
