SUMMARY:Deep Time Walk\, Innsbruck
DESCRIPTION:Each step\, one million years. \nThe Deep Time Walk is a transformative walking experience that invites you to journey through Earth’s 4.6-billion-year story\, from the planet’s fiery beginnings to the present moment. As we walk\, we’ll explore how life has evolved\, how climate has shifted\, and how every living system is deeply connected. \nThis isn’t a science lecture or a tour. It’s a participatory experience. Think of it as a moving meditation through time. Along the way\, we’ll pause to reflect\, share insights in pairs and small groups\, and consider what it means to live at this moment in planetary history. \nAs you travel through deep time\, you’ll be invited to sense the vastness of Earth’s story beneath your feet and the fragility of the present moment we now inhabit. It’s a humbling\, awe-filled experience that often leaves people with a renewed sense of care for the living world and for each other. \nThe walk takes place outdoors along an accessible route\, with moments of conversation\, silence\, and reflection woven throughout. We close by returning to the present day\, and to the question of what kind of ancestors we wish to become. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Duration:About 3.5 hours \nFee:Free (Registration required) \nDistance: approx. 4.6 km \nWhat to bring: weather-appropriate clothing\, comfortable shoes\, water\, curiosity \n \n \n \n \n \n This walk is led by Suzanne Whitby\, founder of Ways to Walk\, using materials from the Deep Time Walk Project. She has been facilitating Deep Time Walks since 2022. Suzanne is a foresight practitioner\, facilitator\, experience designer\, and science & climate communicator who leads experiential walks to explore the world we live and shape what comes next.

SUMMARY:Climate Walk: Conversations for Change: Milan [Fully booked]
DESCRIPTION:This event is now fully booked. \n \n \n \n \n \n Join us for a pilot of the Climate Walk in Milan in September 2024. Hosted by Ways to Walk as part of Milano Green Week. \nThousands of scientists around the world study and document climate change. Their findings are brought together in the IPCC report\, a global summary of what’s happening and why. \nRight here in Milan\, researchers are working on the same questions: how our climate is changing\, what it means for our region\, and how we can adapt and act. \nThis walk isn’t about persuading you that climate change is real (the science already does that.) It’s about making the science visible: seeing its causes and solutions right here\, in the streets\, buildings\, and systems of our city. It’s also an invitation to think critically about your role in this shared world and to reflect on what collective change might look like. \nWe begin with a short grounding and introduction\, then visit four stations that each reveal a part of the city’s climate story: \n\nFood and agriculture – what we eat\, where it grows\, and how it travels.\nBuildings and energy – how we shelter and power our lives.\nMobility and movement – the ways we navigate our world.\nIndustry and production – how things are made\, used\, and renewed.\n\nAt each stop\, you’ll hear a short story or insight\, notice what’s around you\, and share reflections in pairs or small groups. Between stations\, we’ll walk and talk\,  connecting what we’ve seen to our own choices and communities. \nWe close by widening the lens: shifting from individual actions toward collective and civic possibilities. Together\, we’ll explore how communities can spark change and how we can all move from awareness to meaningful action. \nBefore we finish\, you’ll receive a short list of trusted resources if you’d like to dive deeper into the science and local initiatives. \nThis is not a lecture or a tour\, but a shared conversation in motion\, part reflection\, part discovery\, part invitation to act. \n \n \n \n \n \n Duration: about 2–2.5 hoursWhat to bring: weather-appropriate clothing\, curiosity\, and an open mindWalk leader: Suzanne Whitby\, a climate communicator and facilitator who works with tools such as Climate Fresk\, the MIT En-ROADS Climate Simulator\, and the Deep Time Walk.Language: EnglishCost: Free

The world around us is full of hues and shades that we rarely take the time to see. This walk invites you to focus on one colour (let us surprise you on each walk!) and follow it through the city: in walls\, leaves\, clothes\, signs\, reflections\, and unexpected places. \nWe’ll move through Innsbruck together\, pausing at several stops to notice\, share\, and reflect on what we’ve found. Each pause offers a chance to see how colour shapes our moods\, memories\, and sense of place. You’ll have quiet time to observe\, as well as gentle moments for group reflection and sharing\, if you wish. \nThe colour walk is not a guided tour\, but an experiential\, participatory walk that helps you reconnect with your senses\, your surroundings\, and the creative spark that comes from paying attention. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Duration:About 75–90 minutes \nFee: EUR 12 \nWhat to bring:Comfortable shoes\, clothes for the weather\, a phone or small notebook if you’d like to record your colour discoveries\, and a sense of curiosity. \n \n \n \n \n \n This walk is designed and led by Suzanne Whitby\, founder of Ways to Walk. Suzanne is a foresight practitioner\, facilitator\, and an arts-based research who works with the senses\, stories\, futures\, and embodied experience. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Waitlist\nThis event is full. SUMMARY:Closing the Loop – Circular Economy Walk: Reading\, UK
DESCRIPTION:Join the waitlist\n \n \n \n \n \n Every product we buy has a story: where it came from\, how it’s made\, what happens when we’re done with it. Most of those stories move in a straight line: take\, make\, use\, and waste. But what if we could walk them differently? \nIn this participatory Circular Economy Walk\, we’ll start by following a linear path through Reading\, stopping at places that represent key steps in our current system: consumption\, production\, and disposal. Along the way\, we’ll talk about what happens to materials\, energy\, and value when the story ends in a bin. \nThen\, we’ll close the loop. On our return\, we’ll follow a circular route that highlights local examples of reuse\, repair\, recycling\, and re-imagining: places and people already reshaping the way we make and share. \nThrough short stories\, prompts\, and discussion\, you’ll see how the principles of a circular economy are already emerging all around us\, and what each of us can do to keep the loop turning. \nThis is not a lecture or a city tour. It’s a creative walk\, designed to help you see everyday systems differently\, connect ideas across scales\, and reflect on your own role in the circle. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Duration: About 2–2.5 hours \nFee: Free (Registration required) \nWhat to bring: Comfortable shoes\, curiosity\, and something for notes or sketches if you wish \n \n \n \n \n \n This walk is designed and led by Suzanne Whitby\, founder of Ways to Walk. SUMMARY:Climate Walk: Conversations for Change: Innsbruck (Pilot\, Deutsch)
DESCRIPTION:Join the waitlist \n \n \n \n \n \n Right here in Innsbruck\, researchers are working on the same questions: how our climate is changing\, what it means for our region\, and how we can adapt and act. \nWe begin with a short grounding and introduction\, then visit four stations that each reveal a part of the city’s climate story: \n\n\nFood and agriculture – what we eat\, where it grows\, and how it travels. \n\n\nBuildings and energy – how we shelter and power our lives. \n\n\nMobility and movement – the ways we navigate our world. \n\n\nIndustry and production – how things are made\, used\, and renewed. \n\n\nAt each stop\, you’ll hear a short story or insight\, notice what’s around you\, and share reflections in pairs or small groups. \nAfter the walk\, you’ll receive a short list of trusted resources if you’d like to dive deeper into the science and local initiatives. \nThis is not a lecture or a tour\, but a shared conversation in motion\, part reflection\, part discovery\, part invitation to act.
